Markup of Resolutions of Inquiry in the Interest of Greater Transparency for the American People

June 10, 2009

The Full Committee met in an open markup session on June 10th, 2009 in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building to consider resolutions of inquiry that were referred to the Committee.

H.Res. 462 offered by Rep. Steve LaTourette, R-OH., would require the Obama administration to disclose to Congress all relavant documents and proceedings regarding its decision to close nearly 800 Chrysler dealerships and multiple Chrysler manufacturing plants within 14 days of the resolution's passage. Compliance with this resolution would provide the American taxpayers with a sensible level of transparency into the Obama Administration's management of their multi-billion dollar investment in the Chrysler company. This resolution was reported to the House floor by voice vote with a neutral recommendation.

H.Res. 449, offered by Rep. F. James Sensennbrenner, R-WI., would require the EPA to disclose all documents, correspondence, scientific evidence, cost benefit and systemic risk analysis, interagency comments, and specific OMB memos, regarding EPA's proposed endangerment finding for regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. Moving forward with this measure of the transparency would give the American people a clearer understanding of how the EPA and other Federal agencies have carefully evaluated the costs and benefits of empowering the EPA to regulate all carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases emission in the United States. This resolution was reported to the House floor by voice vote with a neutral recommendation.
