• Waxman-Markey does virtually nothing to advance the only large-scale source of zero-emission energy in existence – nuclear power.
• Simplifying the permit process for new plants would allow more new zero-emission electricity to come online quicker than any accelerated construction of new wind and solar power. For some reason, Waxman-Markey ignores this possibility.
• Patrick Moore, the co-founder of Greenpeace, has stated we can’t be serious about global warming without furthering nuclear power.
• The French, who never met a green program they didn’t like, currently get 80 percent of their electricity from nuclear power. Their regulations are not nearly as cumbersome as ours and they have a perfect safety record.
• Nuclear technology is firmly established and developed – this is not a power source requiring billions of taxpayer dollars in R&D or unsustainable subsidies. It can be brought online at a competitive rate for customers on its own, unlike wind and solar power.
